A Fort Collins family's runaway experimental balloon aircraft crash-landed after floating away from home, but there was no sign of a 6-year-old boy named Falcon Henne authorities thought had been inside.
Officials from Larimer, Weld and Adams counties worked this afternoon with the Federal Aviation Administration and assistance from the 9News helicopter to track the balloon.
Officials at Denver International Airport temporarily suspended northbound departures around 1 p.m. and were telling pilots to look out for the balloon.
Falcon's older brother told his parents that he saw Falcon climb into the small compartment at the bottom of the balloon and the balloon lifted off, Larimer County Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Kathy Messick said.
Larimer County Sheriff Jim Alderden that his agency has talked with the county's child-protection agency about the Fort Collins family who lost control of an experimental balloon.
