Brighton police are investigating a fatal crash which occurred on I-76 near the E-470 overpass at about 1:30 pm today.Preliminary investigations indicate a gold-colored Ford minivan was stopped along the shoulder of the eastbound lanes when it was struck from the rear by a rental truck travelling in the same direction. A young girl secured in a child-safety seat inside the minivan died at the scene. The other passengers in the minivan, three adults and a second young child, were transported to area hospitals, as was the driver of the rental truck. The age and identity of the child killed in the crash are not available at this time.
Eastbound lanes of I-76 were closed at Sable Blvd. at approximately 2:00 pm, and are expected to remain closed for several hours as the investigation continues; there are currently no indications that alcohol or drugs were involved in the crash.
