ADAMS COUNTY SHERIFF HONORS AWARD RECIPIENTS

On April 22, 2009, The Adams County Sheriff’s Office held their Annual Awards and Volunteer Recognition Banquet. This banquet is an opportunity to celebrate some of the accomplishments and contributions made to the Sheriff’s Office by employees, volunteers, and citizens during 2007.

Sheriff Doug Darr and the Adams County Sheriff’s Office were honored to have Deborah Takahara, Fox 31’s weekend anchor, as the Master of Ceremony and the 101st Army Band provided the musical entertainment for the banquet. The awards presented included:

Jan Neuman – Employee of the Year
Helen Gaines – Headquarters Volunteer of the Year
Ken Krumpelmann – Range Volunteer of the Year
Lesley Brown – Victim Advocate Volunteer of the Year
William Jordan – Jail Volunteer of the Year
Lynn Schneider – Posse Volunteer of the Year
G. Thomas Manzione – Reserve Deputy of the Year
Zach Edelman – Explorer of the Year


The Citizen/Business Service Citation is presented to citizens who perform exceptional acts of bravery or service for the Sheriff’s Office or for the public safety of the community. The recipients recognized during the banquet were, Retired Captain Don Jarvis, Mr. Julius Williamson, Mr. Dave Rothrock, and Barr Lake State Park Manager Michelle Seubert.

Mary Lou Raines received a Certificate of Recognition. This award is presented employees or citizens who perform special services for the Sheriff’s Office or the public safety of the community.

Deputy Michael Robbins and Deputy Jose Luna each received a Letter of Commendation which is awarded for acts or services performed in the line of duty that reflects high quality and professionalism in the performance of their duties.

Detective Mark Michieli received the Meritorious Achievement Award is awarded for several reasons, one, as in this case, is when an employee displays attention to duty and performance of assigned responsibilities in an exceptional and effective manner.

Each year we recognize an employee’s performance and contributions to both the Adams County Sheriff’s Office and to the community by awarding the Deputy David R. Martinez Memorial Award for Excellence. The 2008 recipient was Sergeant Rick McNair.

The Sergeant Dale R. McLaughlin Memorial Award for Leadership is named in the memory of Sergeant Dale R. McLaughlin to recognize a supervisory employee who consistently demonstrates exemplary leadership, integrity, courage, dedication and unselfishness. Lieutenant Chris Laws received the 2008 Sergeant Dale R. McLaughlin Memorial Award for Leadership.

Deputy Brett Schulze and Deputy Tracey Smalley each received the Life Saving Medal. This medal is awarded to a Sheriff’s employee or employees, who through exceptional knowledge and behavior, perform a physical act that saves a life of another with or without danger to the employee’s life.

Deputy Jeffrey Stovall received the Distinguished Service Medal. This is awarded to a Sheriff’s employee or employees, who must have been unaware of great personal danger to themselves prior to the performance of the act but performed in a commendable manner upon becoming aware of the great personal danger.

Sheriff Darr congratulated all of the recipients and stated, “We are fortunate to have such quality employees in the Sheriff’s Office. There are many, many employees who work equally as hard, doing equally as well, and who we offer our sincere thanks to each of them and we ask them to keep up the good work.”
