Kindergarten roundups are scheduled in Adams 14

(COMMERCE CITY, CO – April 6, 2009) – Beginning in April, Adams 14 parents will start the process of enrolling their children in preschool and kindergarten for the 2009-2010 school year. Children who will be five years old by October 1, 2009, are eligible for kindergarten classes. Screenings will be held on Saturday, April 12, and Saturday, April 26, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Adams 14 Child Care Center (3C’s), located at 5650 Bowen Court in Commerce City. The screenings are scheduled by appointment only, so please call soon. All children in the District must be screened to enroll in kindergarten next year.Children currently enrolled in an Adams 14 preschool will be screened for kindergarten enrollment during school hours, so parents do not need to schedule a screening. Registration and placement information will be sent home to parents this summer.

Students at “Adams 14 is able to offer full day kindergarten,” says Superintendent Sue Chandler, “since the taxpayers of the District generously supported constructing new classrooms at all elementary schools.”

The District is committed to full day kindergarten for all students, because research shows students benefit from the extra time spent on literacy and math. While full day kindergarten may be an adjustment for some students, Adams 14 teachers and paraprofessionals will work with all students to help smooth the transition.Child Find will also screen children ages three and four for preschool for the upcoming school year. Preschool screenings are free and are scheduled by appointment only. The dates for preschool screenings this year are May 12 through May 15. Bringing your child for a screening is the first step in qualifying for preschool, and enrollment is limited.
