Manager’s Corner

An Interview with Brighton Manager, Manuel Esquibel.

What about “Buying Local”? What is Brighton saying about this?
Buying local is a very good agenda for the Brighton Chamber and it’s a good opportunity to refocus on Brighton and our own community.

What about Preservation? Is the City escalating its efforts to preserve the local landscape?
The city is maintaining its position regarding preservation. I wouldn’t say it’s escalating its position but it remains in support of local efforts.

What are the hot issues with Brighton?
Vestas is a hot issue – particularly the new jobs. Other major topics include the bond issues for the water and sewer lines which will support not only new businesses in Brighton but existing business. Additional water and sewer lines are critical for economic development and our ability to support new business in Brighton.

What about The Learning Resource Center? Can we expect more ‘redevelopment projects’ similar to what was done with the former hospital?
The LRC is a special project. We were left with 100,000 square feet and the task of finding another use for the space. We worked hard to get the mix [of business, school, and medical provider]. Currently, Brighton is working to attract energy-related businesses. We already have potentials, but we are asking the question and strategizing how we can enhance these types of businesses within our corridor. We are already planning to have the infrastructure to support the new businesses of this type.
