Rep. Perlmutter Proud to Announce Stimulus Funding For the Rocky Mountain Arsenal Wildlife Refuge

Funds will go towards new staff facilities and an energy efficient visitor center

Washington, DC – Today, U.S. Rep. Ed Perlmutter (CO-07) is pleased to announce over $3,000,000 for the Rocky Mountain Arsenal Wildlife Refuge as part of H.R. 1, the American Recovery & Reinvestment Act. The funds will go towards providing staff facilities and an energy efficient visitor center. Additionally, over half the cost of these new facilities will come from a collaborative effort with the Department of Defense.

“This project will create architectural, design-build and construction jobs in the short term while providing facilities for visitors and wildlife enthusiasts to enjoy for many years. These new facilities will save the Department of Interior overhead costs by utilizing energy efficient standards. The rehabilitation of the RockyMountain Arsenal is a testament to the vision and hard work of many people involved in its clean-up and rebirth. These facility upgrades build upon that vision and embody the goals of the American Recovery & Reinvestment Act,” stated Perlmutter.

The Rocky Mountain Arsenal National Wildlife Refuge is located approximately 11 miles northeast of downtown Denver, and is home to bison, black-tailed prairie dogs, coyotes, bald eagles, and both mule and white-tailed deer. Many species of waterfowl use the arsenal's lakes, and because prairie dogs provide a food source, many species of hawks and owls are seen.
