Follow the yellow brick road to ‘Wizard of Oz’ celebration

COMMERCE CITY – Click your heels together three times and say: “I’m off to see the Wizard, the wonderful Wizard of Oz.”

Your wish has been granted.

Movie lovers everywhere can follow the yellow brick road to the Commerce City Recreation Center for a celebration of the movie classic, “The Wizard of Oz.” The event, in honor of the film’s 70th anniversary, is 1-4 p.m. on Thursday, June 4.

Test your Oz IQ with a trivia contest that’s part of the afternoon fun. Did you know that Frank Morgan, the actor who played Professor Marvel, had several other small parts in the film – can you name them? And who was the famous actor who played the Tin Man before falling ill? If you can answer questions such as these, you could be awarded an “honorary degree of Th.D … that’s Dr. of Thinkology!”

Participants are encouraged to dress the part of their favorite character, whether it’s Dorothy, the Scarecrow, the wicked witch or maybe even one of those flying monkeys. Prizes, refreshments and – of course – a showing of the unforgettable film are also planned.

So dust off your ruby slippers, don your gingham dress and join the fun! The Recreation Center is located at 6060 E. Parkway Dr. For more information, call (303) 289-3761.
