Denver – The Regional Transportation District (RTD) announced that light rail bike permits are no longer required for bicyclists who want to ride light rail. An instructional graphic sticker placed at the proper boarding/exiting light rail train doors shows all passengers the correct way of boarding and deboarding light rail with a bicycle. The “Bikes on Light Rail” instructional signs are located in the front and rear of each train car and will be in place by May 8, 2009.
RTD previously required that passengers with bicycles obtain a free permit to ride light rail. This ensured that bicyclists were familiar with the procedures for safely boarding, riding and deboarding with a bicycle. Because so many in the cycling community are now familiar with these procedures, RTD felt that the permit was no longer necessary.
