Brighton Code Enforcement: New Location, New Look, Same Great Service

Sometimes, even a good product or service can be improved - that’s the thinking behind recent changes which moved the City of Brighton’s Code Enforcement operations and supervision to the Brighton Police Department.

In addition to physically moving from their previous location at City Hall to the PD and courts building at 3401 E. Bromley Lane, Code Enforcement Officers Tammy Shears and Jose Gonzalez are now sporting new uniforms more consistent with those worn by police and Animal Control officers. They are also working more closely with police and Animal Control to help address issues important to the community, under the supervision of Lieutenant Paul Southard and Sergeant Scott Wegscheider. Among other changes, Code Enforcement officers are now being dispatched through the police dispatch system, similar to Animal Control, and have restructured the mechanism for citizens to report graffiti and code violations.

Citizens who wish to report graffiti should call 303-655-2097; upon reaching this number, they will be given the option to press ‘1’ to report graffiti, or ‘2’ for all other services. The reason for the change is to insure that all cases of graffiti are reported to police in addition to being removed, so pressing ‘1’ will connect the caller to the non-emergency number for police dispatch. A police officer will respond to take the criminal report, and then forward the information for Code Enforcement officers to arrange removal. Pressing ‘2’ will connect the caller to the main Code Enforcement number, 303-655-2025.

For those who prefer to report violations by e-mail, Code Enforcement can be reached at code.enforcement@brightonco.gov , or by accessing the City of Brighton web-page ( www.brightonco.gov ) , selecting ‘Police Department’ under the ‘Departments’ tab, then selecting ‘Code Enforcement’ under the heading ‘Key Sections’, and following the link provided to complete an on-line form.

Citizens may also request a Code Enforcement Officer meet with them, during normal work hours, Monday through Saturday 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, by calling the police non-emergency number, 303-288-1535, and requesting that a Code Enforcement Officer respond to their location.
