COMMERCE CITY ― On Monday, June 1, 2009 at approximately 3:43 p.m., Commerce City police officers responded to East 74th Avenue and Highway 85 in reference to an injury accident. Upon arrival officers discovered two vehicles with severe damage—a red Chrysler Masarati and a black GMC Jimmy.
Officers found a 27-year-old male with severe injuries near the GMC Jimmy. This person was transported to an area hospital.
The driver of the Chrysler Masarati was transported to an area hospital with unknown injuries.
The Commerce City Accident Investigation Team responded to the scene. The preliminary investigation revealed that the GMC Jimmy was southbound on Highway 85 at East 74th Avenue. The Chrysler Masarati was eastbound on East 74th Avenue attempting to make a left hand turn onto northbound Highway 85 when it collided with the front of the GMC Jimmy.
The Accident Investigation Team is still working to determine which vehicle had the right of way. The investigation is ongoing and any criminal or traffic related charges will be determined at a later time.
Southbound Highway 85 will remain closed until the on scene investigation is complete. Northbound Highway 85 has been re-opened.
