Commerce City selects AngelouEconomics for strategic planning

Austin, Texas-based consultant will work to increase economic development opportunities

COMMERCE CITY – The City of Commerce City has hired AngelouEconomics to lead a six-month planning process that will result in an Economic Development Strategic Plan. Through the planning process, the city will work with AngelouEconomics on an economic assessment of the city, an identification of target industries, improvements that may be required to meet the needs of these industries, and strategic recommendations for attracting primary employers within the targeted industries.

“Members of the City Council and I understand how vital economic development is to the future of Commerce City ; we’ve made it a top priority,” said Mayor Paul Natale. “We are excited to have an organization on our team that has the knowledge and experience that AngelouEconomics brings to the table. With their support, this process will ultimately provide the guidance we need to strengthen our competitive position in the national and global economy.”

AngelouEconomcis has worked with more than 150 state and municipal clients throughout the United States , as well as companies such as Dell Inc., Oracle, Citgo and The Cleveland Clinic. Internationally, the firm has completed projects in Portugal , the Czech Republic , Brazil and Puerto Rico . ConocoPhillips employed AngelouEconomics to guide its search for office space for its new Global Technology and Corporate Learning centers, which lead to the selection of the StorageTek site in Louisville , Colorado .

“AngelouEconomics is pleased to be working with Commerce City on this timely economic development strategy,” said Angelos Angelou, principal executive officer. “Over the coming months, our team will work closely with the leadership of Commerce City , as well as the community at large, as we assess the City’s competitive advantages, challenges to economic growth, appropriate industry targets and effective marketing initiatives.”

The strategic planning process will begin with a community engagement phase that includes interviews, focus groups and a visioning workshop. Phase two will include a comprehensive economic scan, as well as an analysis of the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats found in Commerce City . The final two phases of the contract include target industry identification, proposed improvements and marketing tools to attract specific primary employers within those industries, and final recommendations to be incorporated into the city’s first ever Economic Development Strategic Plan.

“This comprehensive process will clearly identify the critical economic development issues to address going forward,” said Brittany Morris, economic development director with the City of Commerce City . “With these in mind, we can set goals and strategies for economic development and business growth for the coming years.”
