Adams County Commissioner Alice J. Nichol and her husband, Ronald “Ron” Nichol, will celebrate 50 years of marriage on July 11. Longtime residents of Adams County, they were married at Assumption Church in Welby on July 11, 1959. After the ceremony, Alice’s parents, Rose Gaccetta, and the late John Gaccetta, hosted a memorable reception.
The couple met on a blind date set up by Ron’s cousin, and his wife who worked with Alice. Ron was on leave from service in the Navy at the time and knew he had found “the one.” He didn’t want to risk losing her, so he proposed marriage on their third date! The young lovers carried on a long-distance relationship for the next few years until Ron got out of the Navy in 1959, and immediately headed to the altar with Alice.
The couple has enjoyed many years of involvement with their church, family, and politics. They both have served in many volunteer and elected positions for more than 30 years. They hold the distinction of being the only husband and wife to have both served on the Adams County Board of Commissioners.
The Nichols have four daughters and two sons-in-law, Ronda Reagon, Renee and Rich Stark, Rachelle Bonner and Regina and Thom Jeffries; and five grandchildren, Briana and Joshua Reagon, Arin and Rylee Jeffries and Raelyn Stark.
Their children and grandchildren wish them a wonderful 50th anniversary. They are grateful for the foundation their parents have set for them and their families, and hope they are blessed with many more years of being healthy, happy and together.
