VOLUNTEER VICTIM ADVOCATES NEEDED

The Adams County Sheriff's Office is looking for special, caring, compassionate, individuals to join our agency as Volunteer Victim Advocates.

As a Volunteer Victim Advocate, you will have the unique and rewarding opportunity to assist victims of crimes. Volunteers are asked to provide a minimum of four shifts per month to respond to scenes of a crime, the Sheriff’s Office or a designated location. The Victim Advocate serves as an informed, well-trained source of support to victims during a victim’s immediate crisis. As a Volunteer Advocate, you will work closely with various community organizations and services, and provide referrals to victims when appropriate. All new Advocates are required to attend forty-hours of Victim Advocate training. The training will be every Tuesday and Thursday from 6:15 p.m. to 9:15 p.m. and each Saturday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. beginning September 22, 2009 and ending on October 10, 2009.

Sheriff Darr stated, “Those willing to serve our community as Volunteer Victim Advocates are rare and generous individuals who want to make a difference, who want to help. It is the hardest job they will ever love. ”

Victim Advocate Volunteers must be at least 21 years of age, a high school graduate or have received a GED and must have a valid Colorado driver’s license. Additional information and the application are available on our web site, http://www.co.adams.co.us/sheriff.
