Today at Central Elementary School, members of a regional team that implemented the Central Safe Routes to School grant will officially open the safety improvements at Central Elementary School.
Among the improvements are:
-A new crosswalk across Holly north of 64th;
-New fencing to protect students from parking lot traffic as they enter school grounds;
-New signage to create awareness of the crosswalk and proper entry areas to the school grounds;
-Sidewalk improvements to the area around the school.
This week, one of the grant partners, Bicycle Colorado, has conducted safety lessons for students at Central to give them pointers on walking and biking to school safely.
At 3 p.m. today, Bicycle Colorado will be working with students outside of Central; and then at 3:30 p.m., the grant partners (CDOT, Commerce City and CCPD, Tri County Health, Adams 14, Bicycle Colorado and others) will cut the ribbon to mark the official completion of the safety improvements.
