The Adams County Public Works Department is out in full force to maintain roadways. The county currently has 24 plows at work, 10 in the eastern district, 12 in the western district and two working centrally. The worst conditions are currently on east-west facing roadways, due to winds from the north causing heavy drifting. The Public Works Department has been out since 2:30 a.m. yesterday, Oct. 28, to stay ahead of this drifting. The department will continue running 12-hour shifts to keep roads cleared.
The closing of almost all area school districts has been beneficial, allowing the Public Works Department to move their focus from school areas to major arteries, clearing side streets and staying ahead of drifting.
The Adams County Board of Commissioners has ordered all county offices to close at 3 p.m. today, Thursday, Oct. 29, due to the storm. All offices are expected to reopen on Friday, Oct.
The 17th Judicial District that the Adams County Justice Center will remain open until 5 p.m. today, Oct. 29.
