Commerce City Cultural Council presents Tales of My Heritage

An Art Exhibition that celebrates narrative sculpture Opening Reception, 6 -10 p.m. Nov 14 - Dec 9, 2009, At the Derby Resource Center, 7270 Monaco Street Commerce City, CO 80022

Refreshments provided by Amalia’s Bakery & El Jardin Mexican Restaurant. This exhibition seeks to provide a visual narrative that retells stories told to us by our parents, grandparents, or those whimsical tales of delight or fantasy that we may tell our own children.

Featured Artist, Kathleen Sherman is currently an Artist in Residence at 910 Arts in the Santa Fe Arts District. Her “mission as an artist is to excite the senses, to stretch the imagination, to explore new ways to make art and celebrate life...” She uses natural materials such as leaves, and gourds, constructed with found
objects to create whimsical animals in narrative style. Her work has been in numerous shows throughout Colorado and shown in Chicago, Ill; she has taught classes for Art Reach, Mizel Museum, and the Denver Botanic Gardens & Longmont Museum. Lisa Paulina earned BFA’s in Photography and Painting & Ceramics from Metropolitan State College of Denver. Lisa’s uses bold color and texture to share her experiences by employing technique that echoes the process of spiritual growth.

Angela Ramirez is a Commerce City native who received her BFA at Metropolitan State College of Denver; Angela’s work evokes both joy and melancholy as she weaves stories from family and fantasy in colorful contemporary style. Angela uses unusual objects including eggs, rocks and found objects as her media as well as clay, pencil and painted canvas.

Jarvis Fosdick Jarvis grew up in Loveland and obtained his BSLA from Colorado State. He is experienced in the planning process and design. Outside of the office at the architectural firm, Kenny Associates, Inc. Jarvis is a visual artist and sculptor. His work is about constructed syntax and architecture; he builds quilts from plywood with rope.
