A Humble Thank You to Brighton Voters

Brighton, CO – I would like to extend a humble thank you to Brighton voters for your amazing support over the course of the recent mayoral election. With a mayoral race that involved five candidates, your votes granted me an unprecedented lead after votes were tallied last week. It was not expected that any one of the candidates would garner a significant lead… your votes proved otherwise!

I would also like to thank Dick Hodge, my friend and colleague, for conceding the race after a run-off election that would have cost our community an estimated $25,000 was announced. Initial election results reported that I was shy just five votes from winning the majority vote as outlined by our current City Charter. Although I had a 25% lead over Hodge, the second place candidate, and had garnered over 49% of the total vote our City Charter allowed for a run-off election if fifty-percent of the votes plus one were not achieved. So even though I had the majority, Hodge had the ability to proceed with a run-off election in an attempt to win the mayoral race. By conceding, Hodge ultimately saved our city $25,000 for a run-off in an election that was certain to have ended with the same results. Thank you Dick Hodge for doing the right thing.

I cannot begin to express my sincere thanks and gratitude to the citizens of Brighton for the opportunity to continue to serve you. I am honored and proud to serve as your mayor and will work diligently over the next four years to continue leading our community in the right direction. Thank you Brighton!

Sincerely,
Dick McLean
