Commerce City Rotarians Give in So Many Ways

Commerce City, CO, (December 14, 2009) – For the past several months, the Commerce City Rotary Club has been busy giving to the children and families in their community.

On October 17th and 18th, Commerce City Rotarians hosted an information table on polio at the Family 9Health Fair at Commerce City’s own Dick’s Sporting Goods Park where over 3,000 adults and 1,000 children received health screenings and health education. The goal of this Rotary activity was to help people understand the need for immunizing their children and ultimately to further Rotary’s goal of eradicating Polio throughout the world.

Also, for the fifteenth year, the Commerce City Rotary Club is sponsoring the “Hearts and Soles” Program that purchases new shoes for local children in need. During the month of December, the Commerce City Rotary Club will purchase shoes, socks, and boots for 400 impoverished children in Commerce City and the Adams County School District 14 attendance area. Families are referred to the program by schools and social service agencies. Rotary members make appointments to meet families at the local Walmart where the families select footwear for their children at no cost to them, up to $35 per child.

“Most of us take shoes for granted, but try to imagine the excitement of a child who has never had a new pair of shoes. The Rotary “Hearts and Soles” program truly exemplifies the spirit of giving by bringing joy and hope to others during the Holiday Season. This program provides so much practical benefit to so many children in need” said Norma Portnoy, Rotary Community Services Chair.
