Natural Gas Line Break

COMMERCE CITY ― Commerce City Police responded to a natural gas line leak at about 5:45 p.m. on December 11, 2009. Due to the gas line leak the following roadways in the area have been closed:

Interstate 270 is closed from Interstate 70 to Interstate I 76
Vasquez Blvd. is closed from E. 50 Ave. to E. 60 Ave.
Colorado Blvd. is closed from E. 52 Ave. to E. 60 Ave.
Vasquez Blvd and Colorado Blvd. merge to form Hwy 85 in approximately the 5300 block
E. 56 Ave. is closed from Dahlia St. to Brighton Blvd.

It is unknown at this time how long the road closures will be in place or when the repair will be complete. No evacuations have occurred at this time, and it is not believed there will be a need for any evacuations in the future. An odor of natural gas may be noticeable in the area. Xcel Energy is encouraging customers to leave their homes and call (800) 895-2999 if they smell natural gas in their home.

There were four people injured when the rupture occurred. All four people were transported to local hospitals. Their conditions are unknown at this time.
