BHS DECA students move on to International competition

Six teams of Brighton High School DECA students have qualified for the International Career Development Conference that will be held in Louisville, Ky., in April. DECA students recently participated in the state competition. The announcement was made by DECA teacher Ken Kreutzer.


The following qualified to move on to the international contest:
1st Place, DECA Quiz Bowl - Joe Makepeace, Kevin Jurado, Yessica Canas, and Nayeli Luna.
1st Place, State Publicity Manual - Celiane Dirr and Rocio Campana.
2nd Place, Program of Work - Sabina Hernandez and Miranda Anich.
2nd Place, Public Relations Project - Jose Gutierrez, Denise Ross, and Becky Mitchell .
3rd Place, Creative Marketing – Kevin Jurado and Joe Makepeace.
4th Place, Hospitality and Tourism Marketing Operations Research Event - Nayeli Luna, Samantha Green, and Kacy Oberfoell.

In addition, Alex Jarabeck was elected as Colorado DECA State Secretary and will serve on the 2010/2011 State Officer Action Team.

Also recognized at the state conference as finalists were:
Gen Arellano, Katelyn Clark Martin, and Alex Jarabek – Buying and Merchandising Operations Research.
Kevin Jablonski, Chris Douglass, and Derek Trujillo - Buying and Merchandising Operations Research.
Selina Hernandez and Karlee Mayfield – Business Services Operations Research.
Brandi Schwartzkopf and Rena Pacheco – Community Service Project.
Nicole Rivera and Andreya Cano – Community Service Project.
Amanda McCluskey and Krystyna Towers – Financial Literacy Promotion Project.
David Fleck, Courtney Wagner, and Blake Suppes – Sports and Entertainment Operations Research.
Jose Gutierrez – Sports and Entertainment Series Event.
Paige Conrado and Melissa Laurienti – Travel and Tourism Entertainment Team Management Decision Making.

The BHS chapter also finished second in the Chapter of the Year title with its Program of Work.
