Lawmakers Still Working on Rules for Medical Marijuana Dispensaries

House Bill 1284, still in the works, would impose new licensing and regulatory rules on the state's rapidly expanding medical-marijuana industry. Rules that could include giving local governments the authority to ban dispensaries in their communities.

Medical Marijuana Dispensaries could operate as "centers for profit". The medical marijuana centers could only grow and sell marijuana from Colorado and would be restricted beyond 1,000 feet from schools and day care operations.

"This bill is not finished but it does represent an unprecedented effort from our state legislature to recognize our legitimacy," medical marijuana industry spokesman Matt Brown stated.

Colorado Lawmakers decided to delay a vote on Bill 1284 until sometime next week.
