UPDATE ADAMS COUNTY DEPUTY SHOOTING

On March 13, 2010, at approximately 11:00 p.m., a deputy from the Adams County Sheriff's Office was shot. Deputies were routine foot patrol, in an apartment complex in the 1700 block of Coronado Parkway, in unincorporated Adams County.

Deputies heard a disturbance in the complex. As the deputies approached the area of the disturbance, several shots were fired at the deputies. The injured deputy was transported to an area hospital for treatment. Deputies did not return fire.


On March 15, 2010, detectives obtained a Search Warrant for an apartment in the 1700 block of Coronado Parkway. Three adults, two men and one woman, and two children were removed without incident from the residence.

As the investigation progressed, additional information became available and a suspect was identified in this case. One of the men taken out of the apartment, Sergio Gomez-Estrada, 25, of unincorporated Adams County has been arrested and is being held, at the Adams County Detention Facility, for investigation of Attempted Murder of a Peace Officer and First Degree Assault.

The second male, Javier Arturo Estrada-Gomez, 41, of Denver, was taken to the Adams County Detention Facility for an outstanding traffic warrants for his arrest. The adult female was released with no charges. The children were released to family members. No other suspects are believed to be involved and no other arrests are anticipated.

Because the investigation is continuing, no booking photograph will be available.
