Community Emergency Response Training scheduled

The city of Brighton Office of Emergency Management, through the Colorado Citizen Corps North Central Region Homeland Security Grant Funding, will offer Community Emergency Response Training (CERT) from 6:15 to 9:15 p.m. on Thursdays, July 22 through Sept. 18, at the Police Department Training Room, 3401 E. Bromley Lane. This free, eight-week course provides planning, training, exercises and educational outreach programs related to natural and man-made disasters. It is designed to assist and prepare citizens, government agencies and private/nonprofit organizations prior to, during and after a local emergency or disaster.

Participants will learn skills in team building, disaster psychology, terrorism, fire safety, disaster medical, and light search and rescue. During the last class, participants will partake in a simulated disaster exercise.

Upon completion, individuals will receive a backpack with initial supplies to get them started with individual planning efforts. In addition, they will receive information on how to get involved in their neighborhoods and community with disaster planning.
