Adams County Fair Adds Alpaca Show

New critters will be joining the 2010 Adams County Fair when alpacas make their debut appearance! These sweet and gentle animals can be seen in the fair’s horse barns beginning Friday, Aug. 6, 2010, with the Alpaca Show taking place in the Beef Show Ring at noon on Saturday, Aug. 7, 2010.

Alpacas are fiber animals that are becoming increasingly popular across the United States. In Adams County, alpacas are a becoming a quickly growing hobby of many property owners. Their fine fiber is used by commercial and hand spinners and is prized for its soft and lofty textures.

During the show, alpacas are led on a halter by the exhibitor and are judged on their manners, cleanliness and ability to perform what is asked of them. The exhibitor is also judged on ability to present the animal, knowledge of alpacas and creativity of their costume. Classes will include performance, obstacles, public relations, showmanship and the exciting costume class.

The Alpaca Show is an open show, meaning it is open to anyone of any age from anywhere. Pre-entries are due Thursday, July 15, 2010.
