Commerce City to Rename to Honor

The Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee as well as staff recommend that City Council support the Pioneer Park baseball field name of Chuck Ingram.

Additionally, the Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee as well as staff recommend that City Council support the renaming of City Park to Veteran's Park.

Summary Statement:

Council Policy #CP7 identifies the procedure for naming of facilities. In this policy, "facility" refers to any Parks and Recreation building, facility or park property, or any portion of any Parks and Recreation building, facility or park property. The facility in this case, a baseball field at Pioneer Park may be named for a community of a geographical area, a location, or in honor of any individual who has made a significant contribution to the field of parks and recreation at either a local, state or national level or in recognition of a purpose or a cause. The Parks and Recreation Department will review all requests and present a written recommendation to City Council.

At this time there are three individuals that are recommended for consideration regarding the naming of the baseball field at Pioneer Park. Victor Rolla, Arnold Perez, and Chuck Ingram all have been very active in our community. They have given a part of their lives participating in various recreation athletic settings for youth in Commerce City.

Victor Rolla has been very active throughout his life coaching at Adams City High School, and the Commerce City Parks and Recreation Department. He retired from Adams County School District 14 as a teacher, but continues coaching. Mr. Rolla grew up in this community and currently resides in Commerce City.

Arnold Perez has been active throughout his life. He was one of the founders of the Commerce City Youth Association (CCYA). He volunteered as a baseball coach for Adams City High School and the Commerce City Parks and Recreation Department. Mr. Perez grew up in this community and currently resides in Commerce City.

Chuck Ingram has been very active throughout his life. He has served as a coach for the Commerce City Parks and Recreation Department and the Commerce City Youth Association. Mr. Ingram is currently serving as the board president for CCYA and he grew up in this community and currently resident Commerce City.

All three individuals have given endless hours to our community, giving our youth the opportunity to play sports, learning life skills, and making our community a better place to live. In addition to these three individuals there has been a recommendation to name the baseball field "Veterans Field".

The Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee have reviewed and discussed all four of these recommendations and believe that the conditions of the Facility Naming Guidelines have been met.

Additionally, it was discussed and is recommended that City Park be renamed Veteran's Park in honor of all Veterans. The Veteran's memorial is located at this site and the Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee as well as staff thought it appropriate to have the entire site named Veteran's Park.
