ADAMS COUNTY SHERIFF’S ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS FOR CITIZEN’S ACADEMY

The Adams County Sheriff’s Office is accepting applications for the Fall Citizen’s Academy. The academy introduces citizens to the Sheriff’s Office and provides an opportunity for the participant to have practical, hands-on experience in law enforcement functions.

The Citizen’s Academy will have classroom and practical lessons including presentations by the Office of Emergency Management, Rampart Search and Rescue, the Adams County Posse, and the Crime Prevention Unit. There will also be a tour of the Detention facility and information about the Adams County Communications Center.

Participants will experience hands-on arrest control tactics and will drive a law enforcement vehicle. There will be demonstrations on the Taser, and from the Bomb Unit and SWAT Team.

The academy is a ten-week course with classes every Tuesday night from 6 to 9 p.m. beginning September 7th, with two all-day Saturday classes on October 9th and November 6th. The primary location for the training will be at the Sheriff’s Office Substation, 4201 East 72nd Avenue, in Commerce City.

Applicants must be 21-years-of-age, and pass a background check of driving and criminal records. Adams County residents will be given first priority, and the class is limited to 25 participants.

Applications are available at the Adams County Sheriff’s Office Substation, 4201 East 72nd Avenue, Commerce City, or by contacting Deputy Smalley at: tsmalley@co.adams.co.us.
