Free Family Celebration to Feature Live Animals, Hayrides, Performances, Crafts and More
Flying raptors and dancing horses will take center stage at Refuge Roundup 2010 on Saturday, Oct. 16, at the Rocky Mountain Arsenal National Wildlife Refuge.
This free family event will give roughly 2,000 visitors an opportunity to celebrate National Wildlife Refuge Week and our Western heritage. The 2010 event will include more live animals than ever before and feature a variety of exciting and educational activities for children and adults, including free fishing for the final day of the season.
The free event takes place on Saturday, Oct. 16, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Rocky Mountain Arsenal National Wildlife Refuge on 56th Ave. and Havana St. , just north of I-70.
Events at Refuge Roundup 2010 include:
* Live animals, such as hawks, eagles and horses
* Jose Torres and his Dancing Horses
* Mounted cavalry drills by the Buffalo Soldier historical re-enactment group
* Calf-roping and archery lessons
* Musical performances by Rudy Grant and the Buffalo Riders
* Storytelling and sharp-shooting demonstrations by Buffalo Bill and Annie Oakley
* Bison tours and hayrides
Visitors can participate in activities at Refuge Roundup 2010 on a drop-in basis, meaning no prior reservations are required. Chuck-wagon meals are also available for purchase for a small fee, courtesy of the Friends of the Front Range Wildlife Refuges.
Featured at the event will be the Buffalo Soldiers of the American West, Jose Torres and His Dancing Horses, Rudy Grant and the Buffalo Riders, An Open Range Experience, Plains Conservation Center, Colorado Historical Society, South Platte Valley Historical Society archery/live history, HawkQuest, Colorado Hawking Club, City of Aurora Parks, Recreation and Open Space and Fantastic Facepainting.

Please note: Bison tours will be offered every 45 minutes and hayrides every 30 minutes. They will be filled on a first-come, first-serve basis.
