COMMERCE CITY – What better way to celebrate the fall season than by spending the afternoon in downtown Derby? The Derby Fall Festival, which is Thursday from 4-7 p.m., will also showcase the remodeled intersection at 72nd Place and Monaco. The new intersection is just one of the many improvements in the Derby district. Residents are invited to join city officials and celebrate the completion of the intersection as well as the ribbon-cutting ceremony with Commerce City Mayor Paul Natale. There will also be live music and fun Halloween activities for kids, including a costume contest and trick or treating.
"This project is representative of a collective community vision and demonstrates what we are capable of when we partner to achieve a common goal," said Commerce City Mayor Paul Natale. "The community, public and private entities have all come together to drive forward this initiative and make it a success."
In addition to unveiling improvements to the intersection of 72nd Place and Monaco Street, many Derby businesses will showcase a new façade designed to complement elements of the adjacent intersection. This marks the first among several overall improvements to be completed in the Derby Downtown District as part of redevelopment efforts in the area.
The Derby redevelopment is sponsored in partnership with Commerce City, Suncor Energy, the Derby Business Association and Anythink Library. Adams County has also played a role in helping to fund the efforts through Community Development Block Grant funds, as well as many other private and nonprofit organizations.
