Brighton resident injured in shooting

Brighton police are investigating a shooting which took place in the 800 block of south Fourth Avenue at about 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, November 6, 2010. Part of Fourth Avenue was closed briefly while police searched for evidence of the crime.

Police were initially dispatched to a report of shots fired near south Fourth Avenue and Bromley Lane at approximately 7:32 p.m.; a short time later, as officers were investigating at the scene, they were advised there was a 17-year-old male at Platte Valley Hospital seeking treatment for a gunshot wound.

The shooting victim said he was sitting with his cousin on the tailgate of a truck when a dark-colored Honda pulled up in front of the house, and the male driving the car asked for directions. The victim said as he approached the car to speak to the unknown man, the suspect began shooting through a passenger-side window. The victim told police he did not know the driver.

The shooting suspect was described as a black male about 20 years of age wearing a red hat or bandanna on his head. He was last seen driving northbound on Fourth Avenue in a dark-colored Honda with fading paint and at least one shattered window on the passenger side of the vehicle. The suspect vehicle may also have body damage caused by the firearm. Police have not yet identified a motive for the crime.

Anyone with information they believe is relevant to this crime should contact Detective Michael Payne at (303) 655-2367.
