On January 1, 2011 the Adams County Sheriff’s Office will begin collecting a fee for the registering of sex offenders. The initial fee for a new registration will be $75 and a $25 fee will be collected annually at the time of a birthday registration. In the event that sex offender moves from unincorporated Adams County and are gone for 5 business days and then move back, the initial fee of $75 will be charged.

ReplyDeleteFYI, this is just for the offenders in unincorporated. Not the cities
ReplyDeleteMoney will be hard for some since many are unemployed and states including Colorado to some extent want to make offenders and former offenders unemployable, yet the money is not too stringent for especially those who must re-register once a year. For those re-registering quarterly, within in a years time, this money can be significant.
ReplyDeleteKeep in mind that anyone who is on probation especially is already digging deep in their pockets paying $3000 to $10000 per year in treatment.
The financial burden is stiff and it is not entirely fair, but we are looking at an industry, the sex offender industry where there is a lot of money being made by states, contractors, and others selling their wares and services. On this point the financial burden is too burdensome.
