February Programs at Anythink Brighton

BRIGHTON, Colo.–Jan. 27, 2011–Whether you’re a big kid or a little kid, we have something at Anythink Brighton to inspire creativity, learning and fun. This month you can learn about wellness and exercise or new computer software with your friends and neighbors and our fabulous Anythink staff.

Special Events

Family Place

Saturdays, Feb. 5, 12, 19, 26, and Mar. 5, 10-11:15 am

Family Place Libraries is a network of children’s librarians nationwide who believe that literacy begins at birth and that libraries can help build healthy communities by nourishing healthy families. Anythink is proud to be a part of this exciting program.

Different childhood experts will be on hand to talk with parents and play with children. Each week, new learning and exploration activities are offered. Parents and caregivers with children ages birth-3 are welcome to sign up for this five-week series. Please stop by or call the Brighton branch at 303-659-2572 to register.

Teen Yoga

Thursdays, 4 pm

Join certified instructor Shannon Ayres as you explore the practice of yoga while restoring balance and harmony to your body through breath control, relaxation, meditation techniques, and restorative and restful poses. Please wear loose-fitting clothes. Appropriate for students grades 6-12.
Open Lab Hour

Tuesday, Feb. 15, 7 pm & Thursday, Feb. 17, 10 am

Stop by during this hour for help with your computer questions. Come prepared with specific questions and we’ll be happy to help!

Children’s Programs

Toddler Tales

Mondays, 9:30 am

Spend time with your toddler listening to stories, songs, and finger plays geared just for them. Appropriate for kids ages 2-3. Space is limited; registration required. Please visit our online calendar to register.

Music & Movement

Mondays, 10:30 am and Thursdays, 2 pm

Sing, dance, play games and learn how to play some basic instruments. Appropriate for kids ages 3-6. Space is limited; registration required. Please visit our online calendar to register.

Prime Time for Preschoolers

Tuesdays, 2 pm and Wednesdays, 10:30 am

Enjoy stories, finger plays, songs, and other fun activities just for preschoolers. Appropriate for ages 3-5. Space is limited; registration required. Please visit our online calendar to register.

After School Get-Together

Tuesdays, 4 pm

We’ll have crafts, games, the Wii, and a chance to hang out with your friends every week. Appropriate for elementary-school-age children.

Baby Bounce

Wednesdays, 9:30 am

Share time with your little one at your local Anythink with songs, rhymes, and stories for babies and their caregivers. Appropriate for ages birth-23 months. Space is limited; registration required. Please visit our online calendar to register.

Teen Programs

Teen Council Meeting

Wednesday, Feb. 2, 4 pm

Enjoy a new hands-on activity and help the library develop new ways to host fun programs in the community. Refreshments served. Appropriate for students grades 6-12.

Wednesday Works

Wednesdays, Feb. 9, 16 & 23, 4 pm

Do something different every Wednesday – come by and create something fun with others. Appropriate for students grades 6-12.

Teen Movie Night

Friday, Feb. 18, 6 pm

Watch a fun movie with other teens. February’s feature film will be Vampire’s Suck. Pizza will be served.

Gaming at the Library

Mondays, 3:30-5 pm

Who knew you could have so much fun at the library? Play video games with other teens or try your hand at different board game with friends. Light refreshments served. Appropriate for students grades 6-12.

Rowdy Readers Book Club

Next month’s selection can be picked up at the library so that you can read it before the meeting. Some titles are available in large print and audio formats too. This month’s read: The Lonely Polygamist by Brady Udall.

Basic Computer Skills

Tuesday, Feb. 1, 7 pm & Thursday, Feb. 3, 10 am

Learn how to use a mouse, a keyboard, scroll bars, and the Internet – all the skills that will get you ready to use the library’s computers on your own.

Basic Microsoft Excel

Wed, Feb. 2, 10 am & Monday, Feb. 7, 7 pm

Learn how to create and format a spreadsheet in Microsoft Excel. We’ll also learn how to enter data into a spreadsheet and use basic formulas.

Microsoft Word Basics

Tuesday, Feb. 8, 7 pm & Thursday, Feb. 10, 10 am

Learn the basics of typing a document in Microsoft Word. Start typing, format your text, check your spelling, save and print.

Microsoft Excel Part II

Wed, Feb. 9, 10 am & Monday, Feb. 14, 7 pm

Bring your Excel skills to the next level. Learn how to make adjustments to make your spreadsheet look professional, as well as how to filter and sort your information to get the most out of your work.

Microsoft PowerPoint

Tuesday, Feb. 22, 7 pm & Thursday, Feb. 24, 10 am

Start using Microsoft PowerPoint to create presentations. We’ll learn how to create slides that look great and make preparing for presentations easy.

Microsoft Excel III

Wed, Feb. 23, 10 am & Monday, Feb. 28, 7 pm

Learn even more about the finer features of Excel, including graphing and charts. Come prepared with your own Excel questions as well.
