Brighton: Volunteer opportunities available with the city

Residents are encouraged to participate in the many volunteer opportunities offered by the city of Brighton . Opportunities include:

* Boards and Commissions (Board of Appeals, Brighton Urban Renewal Authority, Cultural Arts Commission, Historic Commission, Housing Authority, Liquor Licensing Authority, Parks and Recreation Advisory Board, Planning Commission, Senior Advisory Board, and Youth Commission)

· Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) – volunteers go through 32-hours of hands-on-training that will allow participants to actively volunteer in an emergency or disaster situation.

· Coaches for Youth Sports – all ages, soccer, baseball, basketball, football

· Events - Culturefest, 4th of July, Market Day, EcoFair, Festival of Lights

· Senior Center - van drivers, receptionists, instructors, special event coordinators, kitchen assistants, game coordinators, pen pals

· Victims Advocates - provide on-scene contact with victims and witnesses of violent crime.

Volunteers are a critical resource for the city. Each volunteer makes a difference and contributes to creating a healthy community. The city encourages residents to use their skills and talents to help people or causes that are important, to meet people who share the same interests, and to get involved with the community by volunteering.
