Suspected driver in Thornton fatal crash given probation 2 days prior

The woman accused of causing a car crash in Thornton that killed a family of five was sentenced to probation two days before the fatal accident.

Court records show that Monica Chavez, 33, pleaded guilty on Tuesday in Adams County Court to a misdemeanor assault charge, stemming from an incident in which she allegedly waved a knife at a group of women.
