It is being funded in part of an $185,200 energy efficiency community block development grant the city successfully competed for in 2010. When complete, the City will save 125,018 kwH annually, translating to $11,602 in annual utility cost savings. The solar panels are being installed from a local Commerce City business firm Douglass Colony Group.

Commerce City heads towards improving sustainability with the installation of 429 photovoltaic solar panels on the roof top of the civic center.
