Man Found Guilty in Shooting Death of Former Business Partner

Adams/Broomfield county District Attorney, Don Quick, announced that William Rex Fowler (dob: 03/31/51) was found guilty in the shooting death of his former business partner.

The prosecution presented evidence that the victim, Thomas Ciancio (DOB: 11/15/67), was the Chief Operating Officer for Fowler Software Design. Mr. Ciancio resigned from the firm in November, 2009 due to Fowler diverting funds. On the morning of December 30, 2009, Mr. Ciancio had a meeting with Fowler to pick up a severance check and formally dissolve the business relationship.

At 10:00 AM on December 30, 2009, Adams County Sheriff’s deputies were called to Fowler Software Design, located at 8391 Delaware Street in unincorporated Adams County, in reference to shots fired. When on scene, Sheriff’s deputies saw Fowler, bleeding from the head, exit the building and then suddenly return inside. A Sheriff’s deputy rushed into the building, retrieved Fowler and escorted him out safely. Upon entering the building, law enforcement located Mr. Ciancio shot in one of the offices. Thomas Ciancio had been shot in the head three times.

“This was a senseless killing of a devoted family man” says Quick. “He had a wife and four children and a close knit extended family. I am deeply saddened that they all have had to suffer such an indescribable loss.”

After two and a half hours of deliberation, the jury found Fowler guilty of First Degree Murder (F1). Fowler was immediately sentence to life without parole in the Colorado Department of Corrections.
