Gov. Hickenlooper orders flags lowered in honor of Spc. Nathan Beyers

Gov. John Hickenlooper today ordered flags be lowered to half-staff on all public buildings statewide on Thursday, July 28, in honor of Spc. Nathan Beyers, who was killed earlier this month in Iraq. Flags should be lowered from sunrise to sunset.

Beyers, 24, of Littleton died July 7 of injuries suffered when insurgents attacked his convoy with an improvised explosive device. He was assigned to the U.S. Army, D Company, 145th Brigade Support Battalion, 116th Cavalry Heavy Brigade Combat Team, in Post Falls, Idaho. Before joining the 145th, Beyers served in the Colorado Army National Guard.

He is survived by his wife, Vanessa Beyers, and a daughter, born on Veterans Day, Nov. 11, 2010, both of Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. A memorial service was held July 22 in Denver.
