SUCCESSFUL MEETING FOR COMMUNITY AND PARENTS FOR 27J

by Joan Kniss

I would like to thank those of you who were able to attend our meeting on Monday. Here is a brief summary for those who were not able to come:

1. Terry Lucero gave an overview of our financial situation and some key points of an "election plan." This plans centers around focusing our communication efforts on "persons of influence" within our community. This is where we need YOUR help. We need to know whom YOU feel are influencers within our school district. If you were at the meeting, you could send me the information requested on that contact sheet. If you were not at the meeting, think of 10 (less is fine) people whom we could keep informed about our campaign. We need their names, addresses, phone numbers, and email addresses. You could email this list to me or Terry Lucero tlucero@sd27j.org . These contacts are critical to our success.

2. Subcommittees briefly met to discuss their "next steps." If you are not on a committee and would like to be, please, contact me, and I will give you some choices.

3. Events that have been done thus far this summer: Information passed out at Commerce City events and Frontera's HOA picnic; information booth at Brighton's CultureFest; meeting with Brighton, Commerce City, and Thornton's elected officials and economic development personnel; meeting with professional election planners; information passed out at Brighton Oasis and postcards left at several sites within the District.

4. Upcoming events: Adams County Fair Parade- This Saturday, line-up by 9:30 at the corner of 19th Ave and Bridge Street in Brighton. We are looking for walkers of all ages (or you can ride the school bus). Bring some homemade signs in support of your child's education and the school district. We are hoping for over 100 walkers. Brighton Ward Picnics are being held over the next three Thursdays: 6-8 pm. This Thursday at Ken Mitchell Park and August 4 at Benedict Park. You can come and help us pass out literature. Back to School Nights- We need volunteers to host tables of information including voter registration. Please, contact me if you are willing to help one evening with this. We need about four parents per school. Board of Education meeting on August 23- 7:00 pm at the District's Training Center located at 80 S. 8th Avenue. At this meeting the Board of Education will vote on whether to place the mill levy override on the November ballot. We encourage you to come to the meeting to show your support for a vote in favor of placing the ballot issue. If you are interested in speaking at the Board meeting, please, sign in when you come.

5. Next meeting: Monday, August 29, 6:30 pm at the United Power building which is located on the east side of I-76 between Bromley and Bridge

6. Questions, concerns, suggestions, please, feel free to contact me.

Thanks so much for your support!
Joan Kniss, President of the Board of Education jkniss@sd27j.org
