Recent Storm Update and Impacts in Commerce City (Thursday July 7th)...

UPDATE (11:45pm): Water levels are going down throughout Commerce City. Highway 85 is now open, Xcel Energy is on site dealing with the down power line near 73rd and Magnolia; city staff will clear the road of the downed tree tomorrow morning at this location. The I-270 frontage road remains closed through tomorrow morning's rush hour. The water level at 60th Avenue near Brighton Road adjacent to Sand Creek is receding and this area should be open tomorrow. Public Works staff will continue to pump water from Fairfax Park for several hours.

The following road and streets are closed due to high water:
- CDOT closed Highway 85 between Hwy 2 (near 62nd Ave) and 69th Ave.
- City staff has closed 60th Ave between Brighton Road and the railroad tracks, 56th Avenue between Quebec Parkway and Spruce, and 64th Avenue and Monaco Street.
- CDOT also closed Sand Creek Drive South (I-270 frontage road) in both directions west of 56th Avenue, due to a sink hole in the road. According to CDOT, the hole is approximately 8 feet in diameter and 3-4 feet deep. The signed detour is 56th Avenue; CDOT and their contractor will investigate the situation tomorrow to give us a better time frame on the repairs.
- City building staff is checking houses that have had trees blown down onto them; the houses checked have minor damage due to downed trees. Power lines are down at near 73nd and Magnolia Street. With the exception of the tree down near 73rd and Magnolia, the reported downed trees have been cleared.
- CDOT is working on the pumps at Hwy 85 at the Railroad overpass. Public Works is deploying pumps at Fairfax Park to keep the water level down to provide a place for water pumped from Hwy 85 and in case we get additional rain. Both Adams County and South Adams County Water and Sanitation District have assisted by offering pumps.
