Brighton Fire Rescue: Crews utilize Tower 51 on technical rescue at water facility

Crews respond to medical call for a waste water plant worker who fell approximately 15 feet from a ladder while working in a holding tank. The tank is 30 feet deep, but fortunately, the worker did not fall the entire distance. The tank was mostly empty while it was being worked on.

The fire crew made a decent into the holding tank, and went to work setting up the tower platform to hook up a rigging to safely remove the patient from the tank. The rigging was a series of ropes and pulleys that allowed the stokes basket to be safely lowered into the tank. Once the patient is secured into the basket, the system allows for the safe and effective removal of the patient from the tank.

It took about 15 minutes from the time fire crews arrived to safely remove the patient. He was immediately transported via ambulance.

There were no fire injuries on this call.
