Fiedler was making good on a promise he made to his students last year -- that he’d cut his hair if PVHS improved in 100 percent of the CSAP tests given in the spring. “I didn’t think they’d improve on ALL of the tests,” Fiedler said.
Yet he was delighted to undergo the hair cut and to report that the school “made big gains in the tests and on the ACTs ” taken by last year’s juniors. “Last year I knew we were not living up to what we could do,” he told the student body at the hair-cutting assembly.
Improvements made by last year’s freshman class: up 12 percent in reading, 11 percent in writing and 2 percent in math. Last year’s sophomores: up 6 percent in reading, 4 percent in writing, 2 percent in math and 13 percent in science.
Last year’s juniors raised the ACT score from 16.7 to 18.
Just before he took his ‘barber seat’ in front of clipper-wielding Student Council President Josh Miller, Fiedler sweetened the promise for next year: If the school improves on 100 percent of the tests given this coming spring, he’ll have his head AND his beard cut this time next year.
Fiedler was joined in the cut-a-thon by (seated front to back in photo to the right of Fiedler) Athletic Director Rich Affleck, Dean of Students Rocky Schneider and science teacher Greg Quenzer.
