The Larimer County Sheriff's Office announced Saturday night that it expects to seek charges in the Balloon Boy incident that has recently taken place.
The sheriff office was not specific, but said the charges would probably be a Class 3 misdemeanor, false reporting. Criminal charges have not yet been ruled out as a possibility.
"We were looking at Class 3 misdemeanor, which hardly seems serious enough given the circumstances," Larimer County Sheriff's Office said Saturday. "We are talking to the district attorney, federal officials to see if perhaps there aren't additional federal charges that are appropriate in this circumstance."
Larimer County Sheriff's Office press release:
Mr. and Mrs. Heene voluntarily came to the Larimer County Sheriff's Office earlier today and were interviewed by investigators. They were then allowed to leave the LCSO Administration Building. The Sheriff's Office is now in the process of obtaining a search warrant for their residence and we anticipate that there will likely be criminal charges filed at some time. Larimer County Sheriff Jim Alderden will conduct a press conference at 2501 Midpoint Drive, the LCSO Administration Building, on Sunday, October 18, 2009, and 11:00 AM. There will be no further comments this evening nor will any interviews be given until 11:00 A.M. Sunday.
