On 10/17, Brighton Officer’s responded to the 100 Block of Pelican Avenue on a report of a Burglary that just occurred. Dispatch reported the nineteen year old victim came home to find an male in her home.
The victim provided a good physical description and stated the suspect left the residence on foot. Brighton Officers responded to the area and began to look for the suspect. Officers stopped their patrol vehicles on Bridge Street near the intersection of 50th Avenue to utilize the Thermal Imaging System.
Brighton Officer Wooten used the system pointing to the large dark field on the north side of Bridge Street. After about five minutes, Officer Wooten spotted a subject on a bicycle riding south through the field and then cross Bridge Street. Officers immediately retreated to their patrol cars and located the subject on Crest Stone Peak Street. The subject was positively identified by the victim as the burglary suspect. Officers retrieved several of the items that had been stolen from the residence, and other items that also may be related to other burglaries in the area.
Without the use of the system, we may have never been able to see the subject due to the darkness of the field.
