GOV. RITTER UNVEILS NEW TERROR-PREVENTION VIDEO

Gov. Bill Ritter today unveiled a new terrorism-prevention video, “Recognizing 8 Signs of Terrorism,” after touring the Center for Empowered Living & Learning in Denver with U.S. Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano.

The video was produced by The CELL with the Governor’s Office of Homeland Security, Colorado Information and Analysis Center and Colorado Department of Agriculture using a $30,400 grant from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.

The video, narrated by former Bronco quarterback John Elway and 9News anchor Kim Christiansen, will teach viewers how to recognize signs of terrorist activities in their communities.

“Eight years after 9/11, it's important to remember that the United States is not immune from terror attacks,” Gov. Ritter said. “It’s vital that every one of us is prepared to detect, prevent and respond to these types of threats. Empowering the public with knowledge is a key component in creating prepared and vigilant communities. I encourage all Coloradans to see the ‘Recognizing 8 Signs of Terrorism’ video at The CELL because we all have the power to make a difference when we are prepared.”

“Recognizing 8 Signs of Terrorism” is designed to educate viewers on suspicious activity associated with terrorism. The video also explains where people can report that activity to Colorado authorities.

The video will be available online at www.thecell.org or www.ciac.co.gov. It also is being shown as part of The Cell’s current exhibit, “Anyone, Anytime, Anywhere: Understanding the Threat of Terrorism.”

The CELL is a non-profit, non-partisan institute dedicated to combating terrorism. It is evolving into a regional and national center for domestic counter-terror prevention and preparedness training. The CELL has worked in conjunction with state and federal entities on programming series and emergency preparedness training including:

* Co-hosting with the Governor’s Office a commemoration event of 9/11 entitled Breaking the Chain of Global Terror, a discussion with Pakistan’s Ambassador to the United States, Husain Haqqani.

* Hosting an important inter-agency preparedness conference in preparation for the Democratic National Convention.

* Hosting seminars on public-private partnership for critical infrastructure protection with the Governor’s Office.
