For the second year Landmark Academy’s sixth grade classes have attended Camp Id-Ra-Ha-Je in Bailey, Colorado for three action packed days of learning in an outdoor setting. This mountain lab school customizes the program to meet the objectives of each school it serves. Landmark has chosen the three day program.
Students are given an orientation upon arrival, have lunch, and then proceed to the first of many outdoor challenges. Keeping with the virtue education that Landmark stresses throughout the school year each student was given OTS (opportunity to serve) where he/she set the table for breakfast lunch or dinner and also cleaned up after meals. This was a great opportunity for students to demonstrate the respect and responsibility training that they have had at Landmark.
The classes that were offered Landmark students included archery, challenge course, survival skills, 40 foot climbing wall, nightly indoor games, and a campfire the second night. Kristen Kelly and Nate Koger said that the food was really good and their favorite thing at camp. Payton Kamm thought that the challenge course was best because it helped her challenge her fears. Taryn Walker enjoyed the climbing wall since it tested her strength, courage, and helped her learn more about herself. Ashley Wandschneider and Nicholas Newton both liked the fact that they could get away from home, have a full day of fun, and were kept busy all day. The fifth graders at Landmark are looking forward to continuing this tradition next year.
