Tower Road landfill hosts free day for Commerce City residents

COMMERCE CITY – Commerce City residents can dispose of trash for free at the Tower Road landfill on Saturday, Oct. 24, courtesy of Allied Waste, operator of the landfill.

Free disposal will be offered from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. To take advantage of the free service, visitors must prove their city residency with a valid Colorado driver’s license or a tax statement. Residents are asked to wear a reflective safety vest while unloading their trash; vests are available at the landfill for $1. There will be no charge for trash hauled in cars, pickup trucks or pickup-size trailers (5-cubic yards), however, loads that are not covered will be charged a double rate.

To dispose of appliances containing refrigerants (air conditioners, freezers, refrigerators, etc.), the owner must possess a certification of chlorofluorocarbon (CFC) removal by a certified EPA technician.

Appliances without this certification will not be accepted.
Other items that WILL NOT be allowed at the landfill include:
• Tires, car batteries and used oil;
• Hazardous materials or hazardous liquids. These substances may be discarded during household chemical collection events that are sponsored by the Tri-County Health
Department.

For information on the free trash disposal day and what items are acceptable, contact Allied Waste at (303) 371-2887.
