Routine Prescribed Burning Planned at Rocky Mountain Arsenal National Wildlife Refuge

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service at Rocky Mountain Arsenal National Wildlife Refuge will be conducting prescribed burning activities today and throughout the month of April 2010 between the hours of 9:00 am to 4:00 pm. All prescribed burns will be conducted when weather and smoke conditions permit. Every burn is planned with the safety of the surrounding community, visitors, employees, and the firefighters as a top priority.

The purpose of the burns is to reduce hazard fuels, manage efforts for weed control and improve wildlife habitat. The prescribed burn season runs through the spring from April to May and resumes again in the fall from September to November.
