Marijuana Grow Discovered During Search Warrant

At approximately 11:30am on February 7, 2011, the Commerce City Police Department Special Services Unit executed a search warrant on a residence in the 9600 block of E 113th Avenue.

The search warrant was in conjunction with an investigation by the North Metro Drug Task Force on a suspected marijuana “grow operation” believed to be taking place at the residence. Concerned neighbors had contacted the police about erratic activity and a foul smell coming from the location.

A 51 year old male at the residence was taken into custody without incident. It was determined he had a large marijuana grow operation in his basement and garage, and had also made several structural modifications to the residence to accommodate this operation. Approximately 250 marijuana plants in varying stages of growth were discovered.

Currently, Commerce City municipal ordinances prohibit dispensaries and marijuana businesses in the City limits.

The male resident was released from the police department pending criminal charge review by the District Attorney.
