Otho E. Stuart Middle School Ribbon Cutting Was Held August 8

The newest 27J school, Otho E. Stuart Middle School, was officially opened on August 8.
This was the fourth and final school to be built from the 2006 bond election. The school is 138,000 square foot and had a budget of $33.2 million. It was completed on time and within budget, as all new 27J schools have been. Prairie View Middle School was used as a prototype, saving time and money. The school is located by Fronterra Village at 15955 East 101th Way in Commerce City.

Many local dignitaries were in attendance including Commerce City Councilmen Jim Benson and Jason McEldowney. Guest speakers included 27J Superintendent Dr. Rod Blunck, 27J Board President Todd Cordrey, Otho Stuart Middle School Principal Martin Pearson, Saunders Construction Superintendent Steve Mortenson, and Ron Neely who is a former Assistant Principal to the late Otho E. Stuart.

Glema Hall (Dean) Stuart, Otho’s wife of 14 years, was the very distinguished guest at the ribbon cutting. Otho served 44 years in public schools, 33 with the Brighton School District, now known as 27J. When he retired in 1973, the Colorado Association for School Executives presented him with an award for his dedicated years of service. He passed away on July 25, 2004, just one month away from his 96th birthday.

Otho will always be remembered for his years of hard work, integrity, honor, a bright intellect, an outgoing personality and his great sense of humor. He will also be remembered as a good neighbor, a trustworthy friend, and an everyday hero.

Now Otho E. Stuart Middle School stands proud as a monument to this educational hero of our community. Its many students over the years can look up to the life of Otho as a stellar example of who to aspire to as they strive to reach their educational goals.
